Minesweeper — Play Free Online
ClassicMinesweeper is the classic logic game: uncover every safe square on a grid using the number clues, and flag the hidden mines without setting one off.
About Minesweeper
Minesweeper needs little introduction. A grid hides a fixed number of mines. Click a square to reveal it: a number tells you how many mines touch that square, a blank square opens up its neighbours automatically, and a mine ends the game. Using the numbers, you deduce where the mines must be, flag them, and clear everything else.
This version offers beginner, intermediate and expert boards, a timer, and the safe first click that modern versions include. It is ideal for a few minutes of pure logic, and expert boards remain a real challenge no matter how long you have played.
How to Play Minesweeper
- Choose a difficulty. Beginner is a small grid with few mines.
- Click any square to start; the first click is always safe.
- Read the numbers and right-click to flag squares that must be mines.
- Reveal every square that is not a mine to win.
Controls
- Left click: reveal a square.
- Right click: place or remove a flag.
- Click a revealed number with both buttons, or double click, to open its remaining neighbours when all its mines are flagged.
- Touch: tap to reveal, long press to flag.
Tips and Tricks
- A 1 next to a single covered square means that square is a mine. Start with those.
- Work along the edges of open areas, where the numbers give the most information.
- Only guess when logic truly runs out, and prefer squares next to low numbers.
- Flag as you go. Unflagged deductions are easy to forget on large boards.
Minesweeper FAQ
What do the numbers mean?
Each number counts the mines in the eight squares surrounding it.
Is it possible to always win without guessing?
Not always. Some boards end in a forced guess, but good play keeps those rare.
Does the timer matter?
Only for personal bests. There is no time limit.
